Wake Your Ride: How to Get Your Ebike Ready for Spring
Winter is great for a lot of things, but unfortunately, riding isn’t one of them.
If your Buzz ebike spent the season tucked away in the garage, basement, or a closet, spring is the perfect time to wake it up from hibernation.
The good news? You don’t have to be an ebike mechanic to get it back in shape and rolling again. A quick once-over and a few simple checks are all you need to get back on your favorite route in no time.
Let’s knock it out together by checking off the basics.
Get Rolling Checklist
Before you fire it up, take a few minutes to cover the essentials:
- Inspect the battery
- Check tire pressure and condition
- Test your brakes
- Lubricate the chain
- Test the electronics and display
- Inspect the frame and hardware
Inspecting the Power Pack
The battery is the heart of your ebike, so it deserves a little more attention first.
If you stored your battery over the winter at a partial charge (a good move, by the way), go ahead and top it off to 100% before your first ride.
While you’re at it, give it a quick visual inspection:
- Look for corrosion or moisture around the terminals
- Make sure it is still able to lock securely into the frame
- Check that the charging and connection ports are clean and dry
Additionally, on your first ride of the season, try to keep an eye on the range to make sure everything feels normal.
Treat Those Tires
Just like a car, cold weather can cause tire pressure to drop. So if it’s sat all winter, there’s a good chance they’re going to need a little air.
Before you hop on:
- Inflate your tires to the recommended PSI
(found on the side of each tire) - Look for cracks or worn-down rubber
- Check for slow leaks or punctures
Properly inflated tires make a big difference in comfort, efficiency, and battery range.
Hit the Brakes
Stopping power always matters, so it’s important to double-check your brakes after a few months in storage.
To give your brakes a quick test:
- Squeeze the brake levers and check the feel
- Inspect the brake pads for wear
- Spin the wheel and listen for any rubbing
Brake wear depends on how often and where you ride, so if something feels off, consider going to a local bike shop for a quick tune-up.
Give That Chain a Check
Your chain works hard, and after going unused in the winter, it can begin to dry out or collect dust.
A quick refresh can help things run smoother:
- Apply fresh bicycle chain lubricant
- Shift through all of the gears
- Make sure everything moves quietly and smoothly
A well-lubricated chain helps improve performance and extends the life of your drivetrain and components.
Don’t Forget the Tech
You’re getting close to hitting the open road, but there’s a reason for the “e” in “ebike”.
Unlike regular bikes, a bad connection can cause problems during a ride. So it’s important to ensure your electronics are working properly.
Take a quick look at the following components in this order:
- Check the wires for a secure connection
(especially near the handlebars) - Make sure there’s no moisture in the display
- Turn on the bike, then test the:
- Pedal assist
- Throttle
- Display functions
A simple check like this helps avoid any surprises once you're out on the road.
Finally, the Frame
After you’ve covered the nitty-gritty, it’s time for a quick cosmetic and structural check.
Tighten any rack mounts, fenders, and stem bolts that may have loosened over the season. Then finish by giving the frame a good springtime shine by wiping it down.
It only takes a few minutes to get your ebike feeling clean, new, and ready to ride.
Note: If your ebike has any folding mechanisms, like the Buzz Centris, be sure they are all working properly.
Seasonal Upgrades
Spring is the perfect time to add accessories that can help make your rides even better.
Riders find several upgrades valuable this time of year, including:
- Rear racks or cargo bags for hauling
- Ebike covers to protect your ride
- An extra battery for extended exploration
Little upgrades like these can help turn everyday rides into full-blown adventures.
Time To Ride
With these quick checks done, your Buzz ebike should be ready for another great season.
If you have questions, need replacement parts, or want help upgrading your ride, our customer service team is always happy to help.
Now get outside, feel the breeze, and enjoy the ride.
